Love that pt.2
Do you?
Hey! Welcome back to LOVE THAT!
Here are the things I’ve been loving lately, not limited to a set theme but just lots of fun creative things I want to share with you!
Incase you are unfamiliar - here is a link to the first article of the series:
Outlander
Now, I know what you are thinking - Issy, Outlander has been happening for AGES. (Yes I do know this.) I have actually been a supporter of this account for quite some time now & even pre-ordered the first ever print magazine recently!!! LOVE THAT.
I wanted to share the account for those of you that aren’t aware….
Outlander consistently shares such great content & I don’t just mean aesthetic imagery but REAL culture and campaigns from luxury to small brands, which in turn puts them on the map.
Shoutout to the first print magazine too, get your hands on it if you can!
The community is all about supporting creatives…with real evidence of bringing followers to photograph at a Burberry show, H&M show and even giving the chance to interview KidSuper to a random follower too!
Outlander is like no other.
Koroma Archive
Edie-rose has recently created Koroma Archive: her styling & archival studio! It has not yet opened & the website is very much in the coming soon phase…but what I’ve been LOVING is the documented process of Edie getting the keys to her studio & slowly filling it with character, furniture and most importantly the clothing!! Oh and the launch dinner party - filled with her friends, which had some stylised branded elements, yet felt close-knit and authentic. This leans into what we can expect from Koroma Archive when fully open!
As well as launching Koroma, Edie has also become associated with styling the brilliant Sienna Spiro. With her looks giving us a teaser & taste of what to expect from both the stylist, archive and even artist Sienna too!
I’d love to visit the studio when it opens!!
Traitors UK
So this does slightly stray away from the typical creative side of things but it’s what I have been loving after all - so I don’t care!
The Traitors (if you are not aware) is a mystified game of deception, much like the infamous mafia - but on steroids! It involves the general public (in this case from the UK but it exists in several other places too) & is hosted by the incredible Claudia Winkleman. (Look out for her outfits - they constantly amaze me and also confuse me as to what the true temp must be when filming!!)
The show exists as a sort of psychological experiment (not really but I do like to analyse it as such). The contestants (who are all strangers) are split into Traitors and Faithfuls - all after a cash prize, subjected to living in a castle together for 2 weeks surrounded by: accusation, murder, intense debates, physical challenges and manipulation. A recipe for great reality TV & a lot of heated drama…
This season has revealed a new Secret Traitor, involving the audience and proving that the producers haven’t just revelled in the recent public obsession over the show but have taken the time to improve and spice up the format! I LOVE THAT the producers are on it.
It is quite a hard show to explain especially when I am conscious many of you may have either seen it or be very confused. Best advice is - watch it! I started season 1 about 3 episodes from the final when my mother was watching it and I happened to sit and join her one evening…give it a go!
Note - this image is from the celebrity traitors promo (I just looooove the boots) : a great show but I’m bias and I think the public is a little more dramatic! Still a great watch:)
LEGO
The introduction of LEGO SMART PLAY unveils a whole new aspect of play, storytelling and adventure; especially for kids! Involving smart bricks which are packed with technical sensors and even mini speakers, allowing responsive play - through what Lego calls invisible technologies.
Lego has always been an incredible concept, and a brand that has captivated such a range of ages and minds. This SMART PLAY has (of course, knowing people today) sparked some debate about imagination and the ability to create for oneself. However, the way I see it is that children & people with disabilities perhaps unable to interact or create sounds during play or after building Lego creations, now have such an amazing opportunity to do so! Such a great way to use tech to elevate play and design or even world building without removing any of the original elements at all!
Additionally, the SMART PLAY can bring a new sense of tech to anyone’s imaginative creations without a screen being present, more to inspire than to takeover!
LEGO remains a fully hands on activity without any ‘visible’ tech around, something we should hold onto in a world where even fridges can show you your WhatsApp notifications!!!
(Plus it’s a lot of fun!)
Video essays
More specifically, I LOVE Mina Le - she has a YouTube channel filled with video essays containing so much information! The topics span across pop culture, fashion, film and more. Even better - she is super engaging and provides so much research based content for her audience: not just waffle but actual backed up facts with literal citations or evidence.
Video essays in general are in my LOVE THAT because I really enjoy the opportunity to be educated / listen to discourse on a subject matter I may never personally look into in my daily or uni life. Watching video essays can further encourage personal research and healthy intrigue into the world outside of your own ‘bubble’ or realm.
However, be aware of who is feeding you long form ‘factual’ information because I could get online tomorrow and throw facts in your face without knowing anything about the topic - so don’t just watch anyone!!!
Another note - video essays are great for actually sitting down and taking information in fully, not as background noise but as a time set aside to learn or listen to another point of view.
DO NOT USE THEM AS BACKGROUND NOISE - YOU WONT LEARN ANYTHING!
Enjoy.
Thanks for reading the latest instalment of LOVE THAT.
Issy Mac will be back soon!
